A story from that time tells about an administrator from Habsburg who forced the Swiss subjects to greet a hat that was hung up on a pole every time they walked past. Wilhelm Tell opposed the greeting and was subsequently forced to use his crossbow to shoot an apple off the head of his son. Wilhelm Tell hit the apple and was after this named a hero. Shortly after he was transferred to a prison, which was situated in a castle, in Küsnacht.
